I'm Pat Perera, a Sri Lankan-born, Melbournian who's passionate about IT. I have more than 25 years' experience across a broad range of technologies and industry vertices. I started computing when I was in college (I'm a Royalist btw 😊 ), working on 8086 XTs (times when Commodores, Ataris, Sinclair computers were state-of-the art), working my way through 286s, 386s, 486 to the Pentium era.

Starting my career in the late 90's, in systems design, build and support, I have managed and supported Windows desktops and servers (3.x, 95, NT, 2Kx, XP, 10), Unix servers (e.g. SCO, AIX, Linux), Database servers (e.g. MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, UniVerse, DBase), Web servers (e,g, Apache, IIS), Network infrastructure (Cisco) and various business applications. I transitioned into IT Service management and delivery, supporting and managing baking and related systems in the mid 2000s, getting my hands dirty with systems implementation as well as some development work using PL/SQL, Crystal reports, Oracle forms, Visual Basic and C#.

I migrated to Australia afterwards, joining the Victorian Government's IT agency as a business applications specialist, managing various off-the-shelf and internally developed applications, application platforms (e.g. WebSphere, ColdFusion, Tomcat) and databases (MSSQL, Oracle). I transitioned my focus from technical to process, becoming a problem manager and later, the Enterprise Process Manager, for incident and problem management.

In 2015, I joined an ASX200 company as a Service Delivery lead. Within a few years, I started wearing different hats, working in Business Analysis, Asset and Configuration Management, Service management, project management and infrastructure management. During this time my role included a mix of technical as well as process aspects - getting my hands dirty in Service Now integration and scripting, AWS, Cisco core networking, Meraki, SDWAN, Zscaler, Palo Alto, Data center management, VMWare, etc.

In 2022, I joined an ASX50 company as a Service Delivery lead, and managed a team of Level-3 support engineers, managing mission critical systems. This involved extensive people management and technical demands.

I am currently an Account Manager for a global consultancy company with an approximate 12,000 headcount and I'm responsible for a team of around one hundred Software, Test and Requirement Engineers across Australia and Vietnam.

Although my recent focus has been on people and account management, I continue to spend a lot of personal time to keep up my technical skills and below are some of the certifications that I have achieved.

I recently created the CloudBuilderAU YouTube channel with the aim of sharing some of my knowledge and experience with the next generation of awesome IT professionals emerging from Sri Lanka.
